WWII exhibit at the Bunker: War of Our Fathers A Brotherhood of Heroes
BALANGA City: The Bataan provincial government in cooperation with the Philippine Veterans Bank and the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office opened at The Bunker an exhibit on World War II in time for the celebration of the 81st Araw ng Kagitingan on Sunday.
On display are vintage photos, memorabilia, and documents during the war such as fighting in various fronts, the Fall of Bataan on April 9, 1942, the Bataan Death March, and the Liberation of the Philippines. The exhibit was titled War of our Fathers: A Brotherhood of Heroes.
“Nawa’y magsilbi itong inspirasyon sa ating mga kababayan upang magbalik-tanaw sa ating kasaysayan at bigyang halaga ang mga sakripisyo ng ating mga bayani,” Gov. Jose Enrique Garcia III said during his opening remarks.
Held at the imposing seven storey- The Bunker, seat of the provincial government, is a WWII exhibit by itself. The building has portions as if ripped by artillery fire. Bunkers were built during the war as protection from aerial bombardment and artillery fire.
Presently, it houses not only offices of the provincial government but banks and other national offices.
