Philippine Veterans Bank Joins 119th Governor Roque B. Ablan Sr. Day Celebration in Laoag

Laoag City, Ilocos Norte – Philippine Veterans Bank (PVB) joined the Province of Ilocos Norte in celebrating the 119th birth anniversary of Governor Roque B. Ablan Sr., an esteemed World War II hero and son of Laoag City, on August 9, 2025.

The day began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Ablan Shrine, honoring the late governor’s courage and sacrifice during the Japanese occupation. Governor Ablan, remembered for his leadership and patriotism, led the province in resisting enemy forces, inspiring both soldiers and civilians alike.

Following the tribute, PVB formally opened its “War of Our Fathers” WWII Exhibit at SM City Laoag, which will be on public display for two weeks until August 22. The exhibit showcases powerful photographs and stories from WWII, with a special section dedicated to Governor Ablan and the guerrilla fighters of Ilocos Norte.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by PVB-VAO Program Director, Atty. Federico A. Manalo, with Guest of Honor Governor Cecilia Araneta Marcos, Mayor James Q. Alcid of Laoag City, Vice Mayor Rey Carlos M. Fariñas, Indonesian Ambassador to the Philippines H.E. Agus Widjojo, and Consul Annette Ablan.
Other dignitaries in attendance were Ambassador Jocelyn Batoon-Garcia, Honorary Consul of Georgia Caroline Marie Q. Lising joined by DTI Asec Michael Ablan and other members of the Ablan family, Veterans Federation of the Philippines District President Delfin Avena-1st District, Virgilio Bruno – 2nd District, and PVAO Field Service Officer Victoria A. Antiporda. PVB’s participation in the Ablan Day celebration not only honored the heroism of Governor Ablan but also fostered engagement with the Laoag City local government and community.
